Raise your consciousness, lower your blood pressure
by Christine Haran

16 March 2005
On 16 March 2005 ABC News reported:
Sitting in a chair with your eyes closed and your mind alert can reduce your blood pressure as effectively as a hypertension drug - if you happen to be practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme. The report cited the study published in the American Journal of Hypertension in January which showed that practising the TM technique was more successful than health education classes or progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive black adults.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
Robert Schneider, MD, FACS, director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention at the Maharishi University of Management in Iowa and author of the study was quoted as saying, 'In one year's time, people with mild high blood pressure—which is still damaging to the heart—had reductions in diastolic blood pressure with TM similar to reductions seen with drugs.'
ABC News also reported that, as a result of the reductions in blood pressure in the TM group, about 25 per cent were able to lower their blood pressure medication dosages, and some went off of their medication completely.
The theory was presented that that TM lowers blood pressure by affecting the part of the nervous system that responds to stress, leading to lowered levels of stress hormones, relaxing the muscles in the blood vessels, and thus lowering heart rate. The report noted that other studies on TM have also shown risk reductions for heart disease for those practising the technique.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
