Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management in Iowa, USA, toured Kosovo and Albania in the past year to present the latest developments and research regarding the Transcendental Meditation programme around the world. He also took the time while touring and lecturing to speak to educators and government officials about how Transcendental Meditation can benefit their fields.
At the time of Dr Morris's visit, for the past few months a foundation started by a wealthy businessman had sponsored about 700 people to learn Transcendental Meditation in Albania and Kosovo. Because of this, several officials and educators Dr Morris met with had already heard of the technique.
In Kosovo, Dr Morris also met with a man often called 'the Nelson Mandela of Kosovo' for his strong stance for peace amidst war. He had been imprisoned for 20 years, on and off, for his stand for the Albanian people, language, and traditions in former Yugoslavia.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's message of peace and desire to create invincible nations resonated strongly with this man; he was very familiar with Maharishi's knowledge and programmes, recognizing them as holding the solution to the nation's problems.
Also in Kosovo, Dr Morris met with several government officials. One, impressed by the benefits, was interested in learning Transcendental Meditation himself. Another surprised Dr Morris by explaining that he had been practising the technique for some time and was interested to learn more about how it can be applied to reduce stress and improve the quality of life in the country.
