Solutions to some of the most pressing problems facing the United States will be the focus of a major conference for government and community leaders this autumn in the nation's capital, Washington, DC.

The 'National Summit: Addressing the consequences of stress in the US' will present the research and application of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) Programme for reducing stress among military veterans, inner-city populations, the homeless, and Native Americans.

Presentations will be geared to solving problems related to traumatic stress, a rising epidemic in the US. Initially seen as a problem affecting soldiers, research shows a growing number of inner city children and adults are exhibiting the same signs of traumatic stress as those coming back from the battlefield.

The all-day conference will consist of hour-long presentations, followed by breakdown sessions to plan action steps. Government officials from all over the US will be invited, as well as international leaders, scientists, military leaders, medical doctors, and leaders in the field of rehabilitation.

Dr Mario Orsatti, National Director of Communication for the Global Country of World Peace in the US, said while announcing the National Summit, 'The US government is very concerned about the rise of mental illness among veterans, those who have served the country and are experiencing stress in a dramatic way.' Scientific research shows the Transcendental Meditation Programme produces significant improvements for soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. 'We will show our government that this can be solved in a simple, direct way with the TM Technique,' said Dr Orsatti.*

Research will also be presented on the reduction of traumatic stress in Native American populations through the TM Programme. Dr Orsatti said, 'This is a fundamental area of the collective consciousness of our country, a community that deserves enlightenment, not stress.'**

Inner cities have long been plagued by drug abuse and homelessness. 'Drug abuse and related problems result from people not experiencing inner fulfilment in their own consciousness, their true home,' Dr Orsatti explains. 'We will demonstrate the results of the TM Technique currently going on in New York City, in the largest rehabilitation programme for the homeless in the US.'***

The National Summit will be hosted by Dr John Hagelin, Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy, President of the David Lynch Foundation, and Raja (Administrator) of Invincible America for the Global Country of World Peace.

Co-hosting the Summit will be music producer and entrepreneur Russell Simmons, a practitioner of the TM Technique, who is considered to be among the most influential Americans regarding issues affecting inner-city populations.

Also co-hosting will be renowned filmmaker and philanthropist, Dr David Lynch, the creative force for many of these projects. The David Lynch Foundation has provided support for teaching the Transcendental Meditation Technique to populations in some of the areas of deepest stress in the nation.

The National Summit will be broadcast online, and will be followed by an evening concert featuring world renowned musicians who personally have benefited from the TM Technique. 'It will be the full value of inspiration,' said Dr Orsatti. 'Intellectual knowledge and a celebration.'

Global Good News will feature details of the Summit, including the date, as more information is announced.
