Two leading politicians from the two parties most likely to win the election in the United Kingdom speak about their practice of Transcendental Meditation.

In an interview with The Times newspaper, Conservative Party shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague described how Transcendental Meditation, which he has practised daily for 30 years since learning the technique as a teenager in Sheffield, makes him calmer, have fewer headaches, and sleep better despite his 6am-9pm day.

The former Tory leader, best-selling author, and self-made millionaire dismissed the suggestion that there is anything mystical about Transcendental Meditation, emphasizing that he used it for purely practical reasons.

Liberal Democrat Party leader Nick Clegg, in another interview with The Times, said that he had practised Transcendental Meditation regularly for five years in his twenties, and had found it 'extremely useful for dealing with the ordinary stresses of life'.

Speaking on the Maharishi Channel*, Raja Peter Warburton, Raja of Great Britain for the Global Country of World Peace, noted that this open discussion by two leading politicians indicates 'an interesting sign of improved collective consciousness in the United Kingdom'.

Raja Peter mentioned another indication: The Associated Press had reported that Britain's Prince Charles will be featured on US television network NBC later this year, in a film about his environmental work. NBC will show 'Harmony', a film about the prince and his view that people have lost the understanding of how to live in harmony with the natural world. It features business and environmental leaders working for a better balance. The special is part of NBC's fourth annual week of programming promoting green lifestyles.

* Raja Peter spoke on the 30 April Maharishi Global Family Chat, which is broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
