Justice triumphs -- finally
by Henry Weinstein
The Los Angeles Times Translate This Article
13 December 2004
On 13 December 2004 The Los Angeles Times reported:
A California man imprisoned for 24 years for a crime he did not commit acknowledges that his religious beliefs and the Transcendental Meditation programme sustained him through his challenging years. 'I really have to give credit to the TM programme. It changed my life,' said Tom Goldstein.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of government.
Wrongly convicted of murder in 1980, Goldstein spent his prison years studying law in prison law libraries, trying to keep to himself, reading his Hebrew prayer book and practising the Transcendental Meditation Technique. Goldstein said he never backed away from his religion, even when confronted with anti-Semitism.
The article chronicles Goldstein's frustrating years of research and appeals, that often seemed only to lead to dead ends. Undaunted, Goldstein continued his fight for justice. In the article, he relates that after learning TM, 'when something stressful happens, it doesn't overwhelm you'.
Finally, with the pro bono help of a lawyer, Goldstein's conviction was overturned. Goldstein is currently seeking damages from the police officers, prosecutors, the county, and town of Long Beach. In the meantime, he continues to attend synagogue, meditates, and spends time at the Transcendental Meditation Center in Beverly Hills.
Goldstein was quoted as saying that TM 'helped take the focus' off his bitter feelings. The author interviewed Rabbi Yitzchak Etshalom, director of Project Next Step at the Simon Wiesenthal Center where Goldstein spoke last September. 'People were very impressed by his lack of bitterness and the acceptance he has developed within himself,' said the rabbi.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
