Maharishi rebuked the western-influenced intelligentsia in India, who in the name of secularism are undermining and compromising the ethos inherent in ancient knowledge of the country. These are people who are unabashedly providing extension to the `divide and rule' policy of the English. He added that the Vedic concept of Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam (the whole world is one family) is valid for all ages and societies.
Maharishi said that America may have achieved the height of comfort and materialism on the basis of so-called modern science and education, but look at the life of the people there. Are they really happy, he asked? The development they are so proud of has created fragmentation at every level of society, and has devastated all values.
Do they have totality in life, he further asked. India too, he said, can become an America in every sense of the word; but all that has no meaning if the Science of Consciousness based on Veda is ignored.
Speaking in the same breath, Maharishi put the blame squarely on modern education which has sown the seeds of anarchy and lack of fulfillment in all societies. Linking English with diplomacy, Maharishi said that this is language wherein nothing is straight.
The founder of the worldwide Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement said that only Vedic education provides lasting solutions to problems. Only Vedic education can raise the collective consciousness of a nation. The consciousness awakened through Vedic education provides totality to life. This is the Unified Field where nothing is impossible.
In conclusion, Maharishi said that a nation can not progress on the strength of modern perceptions of development. The electricity and roads are not the right indicators of progress. The real indicator of progress is the national consciousness that can only be attained through Vedic education.
