The completion of the new greenhouse at Maharishi European Research University (MERU) in the Netherlands is a great achievement in the direction of sustainable self-sufficiency, reported Dr Peter Swan, an expert in Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture.
The large structure, inaugurated on 2 June, measures 28 metres by almost 10 metres and will provide a fertile field for growing food for the MERU campus. In preparation for planting, the greenhouse has been filled with good quality fertile soil, and top-dressed with compost. The design of the greenhouse is very flexible, making it easy to use. The sides of the building can be rolled up and down for ventilation as needed.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Dr Swan explained, created a programme for self-sufficiency through Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture, and the intention with which the greenhouse was inaugurated is that it should not only help increase self-sufficiency at MERU, but also become the centre for a Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture teaching programme there. The centre will be a living example where people can visit, tour, and learn more about the principles of Vedic agriculture.
Global Good News will report more about the new greenhouse at MERU, as well as other recent developments in Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture in the United States.
