by Global Good News staff writer

Dr John Konhaus, Director of the Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture Institute, reported on a recent development near the Brahmasthan, or centre, of India.
Dr Konhaus mentioned a new project which would involve hundreds of farmers and thousands of acres in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The farmers, and even the local government, are excited to begin farming according to Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture standards.
'There are literally thousands of farmers in this area that are excited about beginning this process,' said Dr Konhaus.
He mentioned that a local farmer, under the help and guidance of the local government, has established a large cooperative of 600 farmers with about 4,500 acres of land.
They immediately wanted to begin to provide Vedic Organic food for the large group of Maharishi Vedic Pandits as well as staff, administrators, and course participants who come to the Brahmasthan of India for extended meditation courses.
Dr Konhaus remarked that the food in the area is already first-rate.
'Madhya Pradesh is a very high-quality agricultural area. The farmers in this area are considered to be very good farmers.'
In addition, the area already has a tradition of organic farming.
'Madhya Pradesh is very strong in promoting organic for their farmers and they actually have requested all of the farmers in Madhya Pradesh, when they grow the food for their own families, to only grow it organically.'
But this local farm cooperative is not the only group interested in switching to Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture methods.
'Many companies in India have expressed an interest in incorporating Vedic Organic Agriculture into their production and marketing,' said Dr Konhaus. 'Some of India's best organic companies have expressed this interest. So I'm anticipating that Vedic Organic Agriculture will soon be producing food that can be exported from India so that people around the world can enjoy [it].'
