Farmers in Madhya Pradesh, India are excited by the prospect of returning to their Vedic roots and farming according to Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture standards. Dr John Konhaus, Director of the Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture Institute, recently reported on a unique agricultural conference that was held in Madhya Pradesh state.
The conference was held to discuss the possibility of using thousands of acres of land to farm according to the Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture system.
But how is Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture different from conventional agriculture?
Dr Konhaus remarked, '[Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture] really is the fulfilment of the science of agriculture because it takes the purity of organic agriculture and brings it to a supreme level of Vedic food . . . by enlivening the totality of natural law.'
In other words, according to the Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture Institute's website, in addition to the highest organic standards, 'the technologies used in Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture enliven the intelligence and vitality within the plant itself, thus offering the world the opportunity to eat the most nourishing, healthful and life-enriching food available anywhere.'
Dr Konhaus explained this to the attendees at the conference in Madhya Pradesh. But farmers were not the only ones who came.
The Minister of Agriculture in Madhya Pradesh attended the conference, along with local officials.
The Minister of Agriculture participated in the conference, lecturing on the value of organics, and also led traditional Vedic ceremonies that opened the conference programme.
