Vedic Garden Design: Creating a wholeness which is more than the sum of the parts

Vedic Garden Design combines many aspects of knowledge of the Veda and Vedic Literature, including Vedic astrology, Maharishi Jyotish; Vedic architecture, Maharishi Vastu; Vedic health care, Maharishi Ayur-Veda; and other classical texts related to agriculture and plants.
'It was Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who conceived of the Vedic Garden in its completeness, bringing together the knowledge of all the various aspects of Natural Law available to us in the Vedic texts and creating a wholeness that is more than sum of its parts,' said an expert in this field.
While landscape design, architecture, and gardening have gone hand in hand for centuries—creating beauty, nourishment, and rejuvenation—Vedic Gardens are unique. A Vedic Garden is a garden of knowledge, she said, speaking on a video about Vedic Gardening played during the inauguration of MERU's new Institute of Vedic Garden Design. *
Vedic Gardens are laid out according to four cardinal directions—north, south, east, west—and four intermediary directions—northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest, she continued.
'Each of these directions is uniquely associated with specific aspects of Natural Law which in turn determine the quality of plants, and their color, structure, taste, and fragrance,' the expert explained.
'A Maharishi Vedic Garden acknowledges and enlivens the different aspects of Natural Law present in the different directions, thereby extending the influence of harmony with Natural Law to the areas surrounding a Maharishi Vastu home.'
Together all elements of the garden create a beautiful, harmonious whole.
