With thousands of Yogic Flying Vedic Pandits, and thousands of students practising Transcendental Meditation, one expression of the coherence rising in the national consciousness of India is a new awakening within the scientific community, the government, and among the citizens of the country to ensure the authenticity, purity, and safety of food.

Raja John Fagan* continued his presentation on recent progress in several countries, as a result of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes.

In Part I and Part II of this article, Raja Fagan described dramatic progress in the United States in disallowing the use of genetically engineered foods, since the Invincible America Assembly began in 2006. He went on to describe new developments in India, parallel to those in the US.

'In India,' Raja Fagan said, 'under Raja Harris Kaplan [Raja of India for the Global Country], and the great leadership of Dr Girish Varma**, collective consciousness has been expanding in a very powerful way. Now there are thousands of Yogic Flying Vedic Pandits, and thousands of students in schools practising the Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme.'

As this has been happening, Raja Fagan said, there have been significant changes in the food system in India.

'What we're seeing sprouting up, like very organic natural plants around India, are all these local movements for assuring sustainability and local production of food. We're really focussing on these sustainable qualities and accessing the local knowledge of food in each of these areas. So that's one movement that's profoundly changing the food system and agricultural system of India.'

The other major development, Raja Fagan said, is with respect to genetic engineering. An 'extremely interesting set of events' has made it clear that the government had been taking a weak position with respect to assuring the safety of food supply, by approving genetically engineered foods very rapidly.

'Now very high-level leaders within the scientific community,' Raja Fagan said, '—actually even the man who is considered the father of biotechnology within India has taken a strong stand requiring the government to improve its oversight of genetically engineered crops.' That is happening at the level of the supreme court and the level of government, Raja Fagan said.

He once again highlighted the emergence of a new momentum spurred by the citizens of a nation, supporting this new direction: 'At the level of ''grass roots'', what we're seeing is quite an interesting campaign that's been initiated by activists all over India. It's called the ''I am no lab rat'' campaign—awakening the citizens of India to the fact that genetically engineered crops and foods have been moving into India, with pressure from the biotechnology industry (primarily the large international companies), pushing for more and more GMOs [genetically modified organisms] in India.'

The 'I am not a lab rat' campaign, Raja Fagan said, 'has woken up the citizens, and they have pushed now, even at the level of the ministries of the country, to correct the problem. The first stage has been that the minister of health has come out strongly in support of stronger regulations for protecting from genetically engineered crops.

'So again we're seeing, as collective consciousness rises, the citizens of the country become more alert and more critical to assure the authenticity, purity, and safety of food.'

Raja Fagan concluded his address by saying, 'It's a very exciting thing, and again as Dr Varma's campaigns to enliven collective consciousness grow to another level of power, we'll see great strides in assuring purity in the food supply in India.' He again expressed profound appreciation and gratitude for Maharishi's knowledge of 'how to enliven collective consciousness in the world to assure food purity, enlightenment for every individual, and invincibility for every nation in the world.'

Global Good News will feature comments by leaders of the Global Country of World Peace on Raja Fagan's address in the coming days.

* Raja John Fagan, PhD is Raja of the Global Country of World Peace with special responsibility for food purity and safety, and healthy invincibility, a responsibility entrusted to him by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He has extensive expertise as a molecular biologist who for more than two decades used recombinant DNA techniques in his own research, for which he received over US$2.5 million in grants from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). In 1994 Dr Fagan took an ethical stand against germ-line genetic engineering and renounced $1.8 million in further grants. Since that time, Dr Fagan has become a recognized world leader in promoting food purity and safety through Maharishi's programmes.

** Dr Girish Varma is National Director of the Global Country of World Peace for India, and also Director-General of the Global Capital of World Peace at the Brahma-Sthan [geographical centre] of India; Chairman of the 160 Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group; and President of the Maharishi Institutes of Management and Information Technology, in India.
