Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture as Consciousness-Based Agriculture

Concluding his presentation on 22 October Maharishi Global Family Chat, Dr Peter Swan, Minister of Communication for the Global Country of World Peace and presenter of the Global Family Chat programmes, spoke about the relationship between Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture and Consciousness-Based Agriculture—which is explored in a new course on these topics.
Please visit the Agriculture page of this website for previous articles in this series.
Dr Swan explained that the grower or farmer is the main aspect of Consciousness-Based Agriculture. The grower determines the process of growing and thereby the grown. So the grower, process of growing, and grown are the three aspects of Consciousness-Based Agriculture, unlike in the past where mainly the grown and process of growing have been the subject.
In the same way that in Consciousness-Based Education, the knower is the fundamental element added to the process of knowing and the object of knowing (the approaches usually featured in modern education), in Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture the full development of the consciousness of the grower or farmer is the basis of Consciousness-Based or Vedic agriculture. The Vedic consciousness of the farmer is what provides a Vedic quality to the soil; a Vedic quality in the soil provides Vedic quality of crop, which provides Vedic quality of food, which then gives Vedic health to the whole population. It is all based on consciousness—the development of consciousness of the farmer.
Dr Swan said that Maharishi pointed out that Vedic farming and farmers will create a Vedic Kavach of invincibility, a protective armour, or shield, for the nation—the rains will come on time, pests and diseases will not be found.
Dr Swan explained that the Vedic Organic Agriculture course recently held in South Africa also looked at other aspects of Maharishi's programmes: the Maharishi Poverty Removal Programme, eliminating poverty through organic agriculture; ideal health for the farmer through Maharishi's Vedic Approach to Health, including Maharishi Ayur Veda Products; Maharishi Honey and its unique health-promoting, antibiotic and disinfecting qualities; and Maharishi Sthapatya Veda and the principle of Vastu, gaining the blessings of total Natural Law in concrete form by designing villages and all buildings according to Vedic architecture.
They also looked at the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme and the effect of Yogic Flying on social behaviour and society. The course learnt more about the Raam Global Development Currency for improving the economy and starting development projects to enable any country to use 'the gold' that its soil actually is. Soil, Maharishi said, is gold, because it is what gives rise to all life and it can be nourished and brought up to produce everything that a country needs. 'The Raam is that global currency which will enable any country to raise itself up with its own natural resources,' Dr Swan said.
Maharishi's Poverty Removal Programme brings all these different aspects of knowledge together to create invincibility for the nation, Dr Swan said. 'When the consciousness of the farmer is based in Total Natural Law, pure consciousness, then the farmer spontaneously acts in the most appropriate way in every area of his life.'
Maharishi has enlivened all areas of life everywhere, Dr Swan said, so that life can achieve its full potential.
