Seed bill causes flap for legislator, Vedic City
by Matt Milner

The Ottumwa Courier recently reported that Maharishi Vedic City has voiced concerns over a proposed state bill that voids local laws regarding the sale of seeds. The city had passed an earlier law against the sale of genetically modified organisms within the municipality. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life- supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of agriculture.
Maharishi Vedic City Mayor Robert Wynne was quoted as saying that, 'The community has concerns about the legislation.' According to the article, Mayor Wynne felt that seed regulations were a basic health concern and took control away from local governments. 'We oppose that,' said Wynne. 'The reason is that cities know best their people.'
The Ottumwa Courier also noted that Mayor Wynne feels that city government has a basic responsibility to see to the health and welfare of its citizens. According to Wynne, that includes keeping an eye on environmental impacts, including environmental damage caused by genetically modified crops.
'We believe very strongly in organic [agriculture] because organic does no harm to the environment,' Wynne said.
The bill has not yet gone back to the full agriculture committee.
State Representative Sandra Greiner, who has championed the bill, told the Ottumwa Courier that she does not see a conflict between the legislation she proposed and Maharishi Vedic City's concerns because the legislation governs seed rather than food products.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based— programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
