In a country riddled with stark educational inequalities and suffocating levels of poverty, a special university is fast becoming the symbol of new hope in South Africa.
Students often say that the institute has changed their life. For example, Kahli Nhlanhla says, 'since I've been in Maharishi Institute, I have learned not to settle for less, but to always strive for excellence in everything that I do.'
Established in June of 2007, Maharishi Institute partners with local and international accredited education providers to structure an organized program tailored to the qualifications of students. It provides access to distance education at various programmes and universities, such as Maharishi University of Management. Programmes include support services, financing, experiential work-study and internships, bridging programmes to other services, and self-development programmes such as the twice-daily practice of Transcendental Meditation.
TM allows students to develop holistically, and accomplishes the real goal of education, in a very simple way—by fully developing the student, instead of just trying to fill them up with as much of information as possible, information that all too often becomes quickly outdated.
Extensive research on TM practised by students shows improved learning ability, improved behaviour and leads to improved decision-making and life-skills.
While gaining knowledge with various distance education courses, students advance in work experience.

Over 1,250 unemployed youth had been educated through degrees, diplomas and vacation training as of 2014 at Maharishi Institute.
Over 95 percent of graduates were working in jobs earning over US 52 million in annual salaries.
