In the 50 years that Transcendental Meditation has been taught in Denmark over 40,000 people have learned the technique—almost one per cent of the Danish population. The number of people who learned the technique in the first six months of this year was three times as many as in the same period last year.
A recent half-hour television programme outlined both the basics and the benefits of practising Transcendental Meditation, stirring increased interest in the programme.
At this time, when 20 per cent of adults in Denmark are taking medicine for hypertension, the visit and lecture by renowned researcher Robert Schneider, MD, FACC, brought new knowledge and has sown a new seed in the minds of many people. Dr Schneider is Dean of Maharishi College of Perfect Health and Director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention at Maharishi University of Management, USA.
As a physician and researcher specializing in the field of natural medicine, Dr Schneider has for more than a decade investigated the efficacy of Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care and Transcendental Meditation for the prevention and treatment of chronic disease—especially hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Recently the American Heart Association analyzed the research in this area, and concluded that Transcendental Meditation is the only form of meditation that actually works to reduce blood pressure and the related major health problems of heart attack and stroke.
The new international Transcendental Meditation website has been translated into Danish, as well as short courses on yoga and diet, which are designed in such a way that they can be used for the entire population. The wisdom presented in these courses, the director of the Transcendental Meditation programme in Denmark commented, gives a full picture of each area of life.
The Danish Folk School for Development of Consciousness, Rørvig Folkehøjskole, offers comprehensive courses in a variety of fields, all taught in the context of Consciousness-Based Education. The school offers its students knowledge of the full range of consciousness, based on the most modern scientific understanding and research, together with knowledge and experience of the most ancient traditional wisdom of human development.
