24 July 2013
Recently reviewing the university's many achievements, Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management in the USA, described new relationships with Chinese universities that have developed in the past year. These began during Dr Morris's tour of China last year, which included visits to several institutions of higher learning.
During the tour Dr Morris met with the chairman of Beijing Union University (BUU), a large university with a student body of 30,000. During the meeting Dr Morris presented the results of MUM brain research, including charts illustrating the high level of alpha wave coherence that occurs during Transcendental Meditation. The BUU chairman suggested that the research also be shown to the chairman of Beijing Normal University, the largest university for training teachers and professors in China.
About a month after this meeting a delegation of six deans and faculty from BUU arrived at the MUM campus in Fairfield, Iowa, to assess the university's educational offerings and facilities. The delegation met with faculty, administrators, and students—including Chinese exchange students. From these events a relationship has developed and the two institutions of higher learning will be exchanging students.
The agreement between the two institutions, similar to those involving other Chinese institutions with which MUM has partnership agreements, allows BUU undergraduates to spend up to two years at MUM as part of their degree. This allows them to earn a 'dual degree', meaning that they can officially graduate from both universities.
The collaboration also entails training BUU faculty in Consciousness-Based Education in the future, as well as affording BUU faculty the opportunity to earn a PhD from MUM.
At the invitation of the president of Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) Dr Morris travelled to China for the occasion of BLCU'S 50th anniversary celebration. The two presidents had first met a year earlier during Dr Morris's China tour, at which time the president was introduced to the principles of Consciousness-Based Education. BLCU, renowned as a premier university in China for language and culture, is now a sister university to MUM.
As is the custom in China the two presidents exchanged gifts at their meeting. Dr Morris presented the BLCU president with a copy of The Complete Book of Yogic Flying, by Dr Craig Pearson, Executive Vice President of MUM.
