Something special is happening in Thailand. Over 400 girls are blossoming like beautiful lotuses at the Dhammajarinee Witthaya School—the first Buddhist boarding school for girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of Education.

In Thailand, boys who are poor or orphaned can go to a temple as a novice monk and receive an education. This has not been the case for girls. Seeing this inequality, Dhammajarinee Witthaya School was founded by Buddhist nuns as the first Buddhist boarding school for girls in the country. It is also the only free, Buddhist boarding school—girls come from different provinces all over Thailand, from poor families, broken homes, or as orphans.

By providing a rigorous modern academic curriculum along with Buddhist teachings, the school helps girls to lead better lives, and become the future leaders of their communities. Because many have suffered past trauma, the school also includes yoga and Transcendental Meditation as part of the daily routine, to reduce stress.

'After learning Transcendental Meditation, they become more calm and settled,'' said Acharn Yai, a Buddhist nun and principal of the school. ''Their aggressive behavior decreases, their grades go up; they pay more attention to whatever we teach them. When they have inner happiness, they soak up whatever knowledge we give, unlike before.'
