PhD student Brian Glassett grew up in New Jersey in a family that practices the Transcendental Meditation technique. He studied music and audio production at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, with the goal of becoming a record producer. However, his life took a different turn.
'I was writing a lot of music and doing other creative things, but all of it felt empty . . . . There was something hollow about the culture that I was a part of there. I was sad to see a lot of suffering all around me.''
Brian decided to become a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique. 'As an artist, I wanted to share something of value with the world,' Brian said. 'I thought, even if my art falls flat, if I can help people find transcendence, that's something worthwhile. I chose to create art by living artfully.'
Brian began his new journey in 2010, by enrolling in the MA in Maharishi Vedic Science program at Maharishi University of Management. He realized he had a passion and talent for teaching Maharishi Vedic Science, so after receiving his master's degree, he immediately entered the PhD program. He is also participating in MUM's Enlightened Leadership Program, which aims to train younger faculty and staff for leadership roles in the University. ''It's an honor to be part of the next generation of this profound organization,'' he said.
