'Consciousness-Based Education is the best of both worlds. It is developing the inner life of the student as well as the outer intellectual life,' said Karen Price, mathematics teacher at Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa, USA.
She spoke in a new video that highlights the school's high academic achievements in a remarkably stress-free environment.
The inner development offered at Maharishi School includes instruction in Transcendental Meditation, yoga asanas, Science of Creative Intelligence, Maharishi Ayurveda natural health care, and Sanskrit.
Outer development focuses on rigorous academics, project-based learning, and award-winning extracurriculars.
According to Dr Richard Beall, Head of Maharishi School, students also discover their talents in a variety of extracurricular programmes.
'Last year we won state championships in robotics, poetry, Destination ImagiNation, drama, and science fair competitions,' he said, 'and our tennis team has won 16 state championships.'
Dr Beall attributes these achievements to Consciousness-Based Education and the school's atmosphere of success without stress.
He added that Maharishi School students are winners of top science awards, 17 are National Merit Scholars—double the national average—over the last 30 years, and 95 per cent of students are accepted to four-year colleges.
Student experience at the school upholds this high academic reputation.
'I've been accepted to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU (New York University),' said Essa, an Upper School student about to graduate.
Raphael, a Maharishi School alumnus, said, 'I'm at George Washington University and I'm planning on majoring in International Relations.'
Lawrence Eyre, a retired history teacher and award-winning tennis coach, talked about students' post-graduation success. 'They go to Ivy League schools, they go to major universities and eventually travel the world.'
The long list of universities that Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment graduates have attended includes Princeton, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley, Dartmouth, NYU, Maharishi University of Management, Brown, Northwestern, Michigan, George Washington, Oberlin, Colgate, and Duke.
