'Close the eyes and transcend, open the eyes and read the Vedic Literature in Sanskrit.' —Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of Maharishi University of Management
With Maharishi's recommendation in mind, Maharishi University of Management started a Reading Vedic Literature programme that has become quite popular. The university has since instituted this programme across all academic levels, from undergraduate to doctoral.
Dr William Sands, Dean of the College of Maharishi Vedic Science, said, 'We found that by reading the Vedic Literature, we can restore physiological functioning to its proper basis.'*
But Dr Sands added, 'One of the most significant and important parts of this programme is proper instruction. . . . Maharishi's emphasis was that [the courses] really should be taught by a Vedic Pandit, someone who has trained properly to learn the sounds, who knows the sounds, and can teach the students how to properly pronounce the sounds.'
This emphasis led the faculty in the Maharishi Vedic Science programme to seek a qualified teacher to help the students with their Sanskrit pronunciation.
Luckily, said Dr Sands, they were able to find Acharya Gopal Krishna Dave. He is an Acharya, which means teacher. So not only is he a Maharishi Vedic Pandit, but he also teaches other Pandits in the proper pronunciation and recitation of the Vedic Literature.
'[He] has had a great deal of experience in training the groups of Pandits here in Fairfield, Iowa** and throughout the world, and he's a renowned international scholar in Maharishi Vedic Science.'
Dr Sands added, 'He has been here for almost a year now, helping the students and teaching the faculty also to pronounce properly so we can gain even more out of our recitation of the Vedic Literature. . . . We're extremely fortunate in this last year to have Acharya Dave come and stay with us.'
* Dr Sands was referring to the discovery of Tony Nader, M.D., Ph.D., of the exact correspondence of the Vedic Literature with the structures and functions of human physiology—that the Vedic Literature is the 'blueprint' of the physiology. In recognition of this discovery, Prof. Nader was honoured by Maharishi with the title Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam and given responsibility for guiding the Global Country of World Peace.
** Fairfield, Iowa, USA, home of Maharishi University of Management, is adjacent to Maharishi Vedic City, where a large group of Maharishi Vedic Pandits is in residence, daily performing special peace-creating Vedic recitations to support the rise of peace and progress in the nation.
