Regional and national media covered the opening of the Sustainable Living Center at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA last month, including reports on WHO TV in Des Moines, Iowa and KTVO TV in Kirksville, Missouri and Ottumwa, Iowa.
A report in the Ottumwa Courier was picked up by the Associated Press and sent nationwide, with a number of publications running the story.
''The TV segments were excellent—they really showed what the Sustainable Living Center is all about,'' said MUM publicist Ken Chawkin.
KTVO did an initial story of the opening, and then returned for a second segment that went more in-depth. It highlighted the building as a teaching tool and as a way of ''leading by example.''
It included the role that students have played, and are continuing to play, in its construction, interviewing student Sam Rose talking about how the students are working on designs for the landscape that will actually be used.
Also interviewed was Peter Hodak, who is working on a project that monitors the intake and outflow of energy,
The report can be seen on the Internet at 'Groundbreaking Sustainable Living Center a source of pride in Fairfield'.
The WHO segment explained that the building is like a tree, in that it collects and stores its own energy, producing more than it uses. It also showed how daylighting is used, and highlighted the 26,000 earth blocks used in construction that were made by students.
The report can be seen on the Internet at 'BEYOND GREEN: Building Produces Extra Energy'.
