Earth Day observances around Boulder, Colorado, USA today include presentations by special guest speaker Lonnie Gamble, professor and curriculum director for the Sustainable Living 4-year degree programme at Maharishi University of Management.

A few days ago Prof. Gamble, described as 'one of the most sought-after sustainability educators', was interviewed on WGNU radio in Colorado. Today he spoke to 'a packed house' at Wild Bear Mountain Ecology Center outside Boulder, about Abundance EcoVillage—a cutting-edge, off-the-grid residential community which he co-founded, near the MUM campus in Fairfield, Iowa.

Last Friday at MUM, Mr Gamble's department formally opened its innovative new Sustainable Living Center, which he was instrumental in developing.

The Sustainable Living Center will have the distinction of being one of the few ''net-zero'' energy buildings in the country, meaning that the building produces as much or more energy than it uses.

''We will be net-zero for energy, including for electricity and for heating and cooling,'' Prof. Gamble commented recently. ''Many net-zero buildings are net-zero just for electricity.'' The building is designed to eventually be completely off the grid, including for water usage and waste treatment, as funds become available.

Today's Earth Day events in the city of Fairfield, culminating the 'EcoFairfield' weekend organized by MUM students, include community-wide participation in the planting of a 300-tree orchard at local Chatauqua Park.

Global Good News will continue to feature wide press coverage of the opening of the Sustainable Living Center and related topics.
