Following a radio interview with Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management, Joy FM in Ghana interviewed two local citizens to gauge how they felt about Transcendental Meditation.
Joy FM, one of the most influential radio stations in Ghana, attended a seminar given by Dr Morris to present Consciousness-Based Education and the Transcendental Meditation Programme to prominent educators.
After the seminar, the radio station first interviewed Dr Morris, and then two who had been in the audience.
The first interviewee was an educational leader who attended the presentation.
Responding to a question about whether Transcendental Meditation is a good idea, the educator talked about doing a cost/benefit analysis. He also mentioned all the scientific studies backing Transcendental Meditation, saying that the programme might have something to offer the school system in Ghana.
He went on to explain that he felt the evidence was convincing, especially the effects seen on the brain.
'We are dealing with human beings and the human brain is a very powerful organ,' he remarked, adding that if Ghana's students are able to develop the brain it would be to their benefit and to the benefit of the country as a whole.
Next Joy FM interviewed a father of two, asking him if he would allow his children to practise this technique in school to improve their academic performance?
'Absolutely,' the father replied.
He spoke of the value of allowing students to rest their minds in order to refocus their brains.
'I think it's a great idea to introduce this type of meditation into our schools. . . . It's a wonderful idea and I believe that it's going to improve the grades of our kids.'
