The recent tour of Ghana by Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management in the USA, received media coverage from some of the most popular radio and television stations in the country. Dr Morris is an international authority on Consciousness-Based Education, Transcendental Meditation, and related programmes.

Reporters from many different media outlets attended Dr Morris's seminar on Consciousness-Based Education for leading educators, held in the capital of Ghana, Accra. According to Dr Kwesi Orgle, director of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Ghana, 'The most popular radio and TV stations in Accra were represented at the seminar and they gave it very good coverage.'

Right after the seminar, Joy FM, often cited as the most popular and influential radio station in Ghana, featured Dr Morris as well as a prominent educational figure and a father of two in a very positive prime-time broadcast.

The radio show was well-received. The educator and parent who were interviewed kept mentioning that Transcendental Meditation is a programme that is backed by over 600 scientific research studies that have been conducted in more than 30 countries around the world in more than 250 research institutions. They remarked that the evidence is compelling.

Although the education leader who was interviewed has not learned Transcendental Meditation, he said, 'With such evidence available, why should we not try it?'

He said that Ghana should try incorporating Consciousness-Based Education into the school system and he thinks it should come from the highest level:

'Ghana has a choice to make. Ghana can choose to rely on the evidence that is very clear and the research that has been conducted and adopt this system of education. Or we can close our eyes to it and continue to wallow in our difficulties.'

The father of two who was interviewed would like his children to learn Transcendental Meditation. He also remarked that this rejuvenating practice of meditation is 'something that we all need'.

Global Good News will feature more about the radio broadcast on Joy FM.
