2011 sees advances in Consciousness-Based Education in Trinidad

In 2011, Maharishi Institute of Science and Technology was established in Trinidad and Tobago. Through this institution, online courses from the US-based Maharishi University of Management will be offered in 2012. Also, a parcel of land was donated for use by Maharishi Institute of Science and Technology. This parcel will house the institute's classrooms and learning centre.

2011 was a good one for the Caribbean nation, said Dr David Lee Sheng Tin, a teacher of Transcendental Meditation for over 25 years. In a year-end report, he also also noted that more people have been learning Transcendental Meditation in the country.

In addition, the Trinidad government reported that there has been a dramatic decrease in crime in 2011, with crime rates at their lowest in five years. This is an effect predicted to occur with increasing numbers of people practising Transcendental Meditation, the result of rising coherence in national consciousness.

Over the course of the last year, Trinidad and Tobago welcomed many experts in Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's technologies of consciousness, including teachers of Transcendental Meditation advanced techniques and Dr Ashley Deans, Director of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in the United States.

In October Dr Deans made presentations to many schools and institutions, including the SWAHA (Society Working for the Advancement of Human Aspirations) secondary school where over 200 students have been practising Transcendental Meditation since 2007.

One result of Dr Deans's visit is that other schools have shown interest in Consciousness-Based Education and are looking into possibilities for introducing it in 2012.
