The Maharishi School Trust in the UK, propelled by the success of its first Free School in Lancashire, England, is in the process of seeking government support to open two new Maharishi Free Schools.
Dr Peter Warburton, Chairman of Maharishi Foundation UK, recently described the requirements to do so.
He said that in order to submit an application to begin the long process of review and scrutiny, the Maharishi School Trust needs several things in place.
They need ideas for probable locations for the school, a solid financial plan, and a curriculum.
In addition, the Maharishi School Trust needs a minimum of 100 applicants for each school. That means the parents of 100 children of the appropriate age must confirm that they wish to send their children to the school. Dr Warburton would ideally like to see 200 applicants, just to provide a safety net.
The progress in this part of the application process has been very encouraging, he said. Already, with just a week or two of campaigning, 45 parents have confirmed they want to send their children to the school. This successful campaigning took place in the area of London where the Maharishi Free School looks to be located.
In Suffolk, the second proposed location for a new Maharishi School, campaigners have already found the minimum number of applicants. They reached the goal easily and quickly, and now have two more months to complete the application.
Based on these early signs of progress, Dr Warburton feels optimistic about obtaining government support to open these two new schools which will provide 'the best and most holistic education possible, Consciousness-Based Education'.
