Due to increased interest from a wider variety of students than ever before, Maharishi University of Management's (MUM) department of Maharishi Vedic Science is expanding. The department is now a college of Maharishi Vedic Science.
According to the Dean of the College, Dr William Sands, 'What that means is that the college will act as an umbrella over the department and over a number of initiatives and activities that the trustees would like us to undertake. They're activities for expansion,' for bringing the knowledge of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's science and technology of consciousness to people all over the world.
As part of this expansion, the new college will focus on hiring more faculty who can go out and give lectures around the world. Dr Sands continued, 'We want the faculty now to be undertaking more publications, to be writing more books, to be creating more courses.'
But perhaps the biggest change the new college is undertaking is its distance education programme. These days many universities are offering their programmes online, and the College of Maharishi Vedic Science is at the forefront of this trend.
Dr Sands and the MUM trustees recognize that there are billions of people throughout the world who may not have a chance to come to Fairfield, Iowa, USA to attend the College of Maharishi Vedic Science in person. But through the university's established distance education programme, anyone with an internet connection can have easy access to Maharishi's programmes and knowledge.
The college will offer their master's degree programme first. It will be online by the spring of 2012. One of the main focuses, Dr Sands said, will be all the beautiful books Maharishi wrote, like Science of Being and Art of Living and his translation and commentary on the Bhagavad-Gita,* as well as thousands of hours of video containing all the invaluable knowledge of Vedic Science that Maharishi brought to light from the Vedic literature.
Dr Sands concluded, 'We have all of these as a great resource we'll be using to bring the master's degree programme to people throughout the world.'
