The article describes the new Creative Musical Arts Program being launched this fall by Maharishi University of Management in the United States, which includes courses on songwriting and music technology. Students can earn a minor in Creative Musical Arts, choose music as a specialization of the BA in Media and Communications degree, or take music classes as electives. The department plans to expand the programme into a major and a graduate program.
The program integrates three main areas:
∙ Exploring diverse musical styles through a unique approach to improvisation and composition;
∙ Hands-on training in theory, aural skills, instrumental technique, repertoire, and more;
∙ Developing students' inner creative potential through Consciousness-Based Education.
Core faculty include top professionals in the fields of performing, composing, teaching, and music technology, including renowned musicians from New York City and the University of Michigan.
'Music has a powerfully harmonizing and integrating influence on the individual and the environment,' said professor Isabelle Matzkin, director of the programme. 'Our goal is to provide an educational setting where students will harness that power and develop a personal, artistic voice capable of making a positive difference in the world.'
