The United States Professional Tennis Association has named Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment (MSAE) tennis coach Mr Lawrence Eyre 'National High School Tennis Coach of the Year'. The School, located in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, recently honoured Mr Eyre in an assembly.

Dr Richard Beall, MSAE Principal, reported on Mr Eyre's achievements on a recent Maharishi Global Family Chat.* He introduced Mr Eyre as not only a tennis coach, but a founding faculty member of the Middle and Upper School, who began teaching in 1981.

Mr Eyre has taught Maharishi's Science of Creative Intelligence, Sanskrit, and principles of Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care, such as pulse diagnosis.

This new achievement, continued Dr Beall, highlights the 'remarkable success' of the MSAE tennis programme over many years under Mr Eyre's guidance; and also reflects 'the pivotal role of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme, Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, and other aspects of Consciousness-Based Athletics in achieving that success'.

During Mr Eyre's 29 years coaching tennis at the school, he has produced 16 state champions—in singles, doubles, and team. These awards include two 'triple crowns'—when one school wins state championships in all three of the above categories within the same year.

At the recent MSAE assembly honouring Mr Eyre, Dr Ashley Deans, Global Ambassador for Consciousness-Based Education for the Global Country of World Peace, praised Mr Eyre as a prime example of a coach who has successfully channeled students' infinite potential for success.

Elaborating on this theme, Dr Deans commented that 'the students of MSAE can achieve anything, with their infinite potential unfolding through twice-daily practice of Transcendental Meditation and the TM-Sidhi Programme. When they have a teacher or coach who is enthusiastic about a specific area, these students will go on to achieve highly in that area.'

Also speaking at the assembly was Mr Ed Malloy, Mayor of Fairfield, who commended Mr Eyre for his selflessness as a coach, and for strengthening the reputation of MSAE—and of Fairfield—so much over the years.

Six MSAE alumni who had played on Mr Eyre's tennis teams between 1991 and 2007 also spoke—including Tyler Cleveland, the most accomplished athlete in the school's history, who won the Iowa state championship three consecutive years. He went on to play for the University of Iowa, a prominent state university, where he was named Player of the Year four years in a row; Conference Player of the Year for two years; and Conference Sportsman and Male Athlete each for one year. Tyler praised Mr Eyre for his ability to develop a strong tennis team, as well as each individual player.
