Speaking recently about the relationship between integrated brain functioning and human performance, Dr Guy-Paul Gagné said, 'Knowledge is knowledge only when it is used in action.' Referring to a principle expressed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace, Dr Gagné said, 'As usual, Maharishi was 25-30 years in advance of science.'
Relating this universal principle to the current understanding of neuroscience and brain functioning, Dr Gagné continued, 'If we have knowledge, but don't have the proper neurophysiology to put it into action, it is useless. Transcendental Meditation is a way to put our knowledge into action.'
He explained that the latest research of Dr Fred Travis and Dr Harald Harung on the brain integration scale not only demonstrates the beneficial effects of Transcendental Meditation; it also makes clear the difference between world class and more average athletes: in the same team, with the same training, the difference between them is the level of brain integration.
'These world class athletes are gifted with more integrated brain functioning,' Dr Gagné said. 'Whereas previously this was left to chance, we know now that with Transcendental Meditation we can increase the brain integration scale—so we have a tool to produce champions.'
With the permission of Dr Travis, Dr Gagné has produced a video presentation in English and French about Consciousness-Based Education, Transcendental Meditation, and integrated brain functioning. It is a general introduction to Consciousness-Based Education for schools or any teaching environment, and can be used in Canada and in other French-speaking countries.
In the coming days Global Good News will present a further article about integrated brain functioning and improved human performance, both in athletes and in all areas of life.
Dr Gagné was speaking on the 2 September Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
