'Come Together' was the theme of an international summer programme hosted by folk high schools in Denmark, to discuss innovative solutions to climate challenges. The event, which took place last month, attracted 300 participants from fifty countries and included multicultural celebrations, song, dance, and educational entertainment.
One of eleven schools organizing the programme, Rørvig Folkehøjskole—the Folk School for the Development of Consciousness,* in Rørvig, Denmark—hosted a camp with the theme: 'The Climate, the Environment, and the Development of Human Potential'. Speakers presented the deep connectedness of ecology and consciousness, and Consciousness-Based solutions to global challenges through the programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
Camp participants learned about the Transcendental Meditation Technique for the development of consciousness, Maharishi Vedic Medicine for preventive health care, Maharishi Vedic Architecture for building in accord with Natural Law, Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture, and eco-friendly technology.
One-third of the attendees were not already practising Transcendental Meditation, and many expressed a desire to learn the technique. A VIP journalist visiting from Cambodia plans to feature the camp in his popular weekly television programme.
Reflecting on the success of the camp,** one of the organizers said, 'It is important that we take an active role during the upcoming United Nations Climate Summit, to deliver true solutions for climate and environmental problems, and the knowledge of how to live in accord with Natural Law.
'Outer behavior is based on thinking, which is based on consciousness,' he continued. 'The source of consciousness is the source of all the Laws of Nature. To create change in the environment, it is vital to enliven all positive qualities in the collective consciousness so people start to think and behave in a life-supporting manner.'
The Rørvig Folk School for the Development of Consciousness will hold a World Peace Assembly in the weeks preceding the United Nations Climate Summit in December. The goal is to have a group of 250 Yogic Flyers—practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation Technique and the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme—practising together daily in Copenhagen, to support the rise of coherence, progress, and all positive trends in the collective consciousness of the nation and world, during this important international event.
* The Folk School for the Development of Consciousness, Rørvig Folkehøjskole, began 30 years ago and is part of the folk high school system subsidized by the Danish government. The school offers informal, non-degree courses in a wide range of subjects for adult students (minimum age is 17 1/2). The unique focus at Rørvig Folkehøjskole is the development of consciousness through the Transcendental Meditation Programme. For more information, see www.rfh.dk, in Danish and English.
