At the fourth anniversary celebration for the David Lynch Foundation, on 25 July 2009, Dr Chris Busch, Director of Programmes for the Foundation, reflected on its major achievements in supporting Consciousness-Based Education initiatives, especially in the San Francisco area.
Please also see Global Good News article summarizing the first half of the anniversary celebration.
'There have been many successes in Consciousness-Based Education programmes which have been running for three years, at 16 public and private schools in the US,' began Dr Busch. He said that 3,000 students and 800 faculty and administration have learned the Transcendental Meditation Programme in the US so far. The programme has been implemented in Native American schools, schools for children with special needs, among others.
Dr Busch went on to highlight one project in particular, which has achieved an exciting level of success, in the San Francisco school district. Transcendental Meditation has been implemented in two middle schools—with a third school project in process—both in low-income areas. Students at these schools have since achieved unprecedented grade point averages and graduation rates, as well as an overall better quality of life.
The principal of one of these schools recently invited the leaders of the programme to present their successes to the District Research Office for the San Francisco school system. The department—one of the most revered in the country—then arranged for them to present to the city's district offices, which include several hundred executives, officers, superintendents, and heads of research.
Dr Busch explained that this presentation, on the benefits of Transcendental Meditation for children, also inspired some of the executives to learn the practice.
Global Good News will feature more about the David Lynch Foundation fourth anniversary celebration in the coming days.
