27 June 2009
At the Maharishi University of Management (M.U.M.) commencement ceremony on 27 June 2009, Dr Vincent Argiro, university trustee, scientist, and philanthropist, is giving the Commencement address, on the theme 'Sustain Your Ability'.
Dr Argiro, who, with his wife Maggie Argiro, funded the construction of the beautiful new Argiro Student Center at M.U.M., has had a long, successful career in the field of technology and entrepreneurship. After receiving his BA from Yale University and his PhD from Washington University, Dr Argiro went on to join M.U.M. faculty in 1986 as a professor of neuroscience, cell biology, and developmental biology. He also conducted extensive scientific research at the university, and under state and federal grants he developed cutting-edge 3D imaging technology to facilitate research in brain development.
As a result of his successful research, Dr Argiro founded the company Vital Images in 1988, a pursuit to which he eventually shifted his focus full-time—retiring in 2006. Currently, the publicly held company employs 300 people and is a major supplier of 3D visualization and analysis software used in conjunction with other major imaging and medical diagnosis tools. 'The company's technology has been extremely important for the diagnosis and planning of treatment in US healthcare,' commented Dr Mario Orsatti, National Director of Communication for the Global Country of World Peace in the US, on 23 June 2009. He added that Dr Argiro won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the US in 2005.
'Dr Vincent Argiro, along with his wife Maggie, have been and continue to be dedicated members of the M.U.M. community,' said Dr Orsatti in closing. 'It will be a fantastic opportunity for our students to hear directly in a commencement address from this brilliant individual who really is the image of the enlightened scientist.'
