Speaking recently on Maharishi Global Family Chat, Dr Ronald Barnett, dean of admissions for Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in Fairfield, Iowa, USA reported record-breaking enrolment rates at the university.
Dr Barnett stated that, by this coming June, enrolment will have reached 1,200 students, the highest number the university has ever had. In fact, he said, it is the first time that MUM enrolment has ever exceeded 1,000. Putting the current enrolment in further perspective, Dr Barnett reported that it is double what it was three years ago, and triple what it was in the year 2000. '219 new students enrolled this spring,' added Dr Barnett, 'the largest spring-enrolment group we've had in history.'
The recent explosion of interest in the university, said Dr Barnett, is largely fueled by young people who haven't yet learnt Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique. These students, he continued, see in MUM an opportunity for spiritual development absent at most other universities.
The recent David Lynch Weekend at MUM, which featured performances and lectures by film director David Lynch; Raja Dr John Hagelin, renowned physicist and Raja of Invincible America for the Global Country of World Peace; and songwriter Donovan Leitch, presented an ideal opportunity for attracting prospective students to the university. 'As opposed to Lynch weekends of previous years, we catered this event primarily towards prospective students,' said Dr Barnett. The approach was successful, as a ground-breaking 275 prospective students attended the event, 65 of whom learnt the Transcendental Meditation Technique during the weekend. 'These visitors were extremely impressed by the students, faculty, and general atmosphere of the university,' reported Dr Barnett, 'as well as with their profound initial experiences with practising the Transcendental Meditation Technique.'
Judging by the steady increase in enrolment over the years, and by the recent surge in excitement surrounding David Lynch Weekend, Dr Barnett said he has no reason to doubt that the upward trend in enrolment will continue.
