Nearly 60 Lynch Weekend attendees learn meditation
The M.U.M. Review Maharishi University of Management, Iowa, USA Translate This Article
4 May 2008
Fifty-eight of those attending the David Lynch Weekend applied for admission to the University and received a scholarship to learn the Transcendental Meditation technique while they were on campus.
Those who were instructed arrived on Thursday, in advance of the rest of the attendees, and their instruction was sponsored by the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, which has donated $1 million for this purpose and to help cover the cost of instruction in the TM-Sidhi program for current students.
A dozen different teachers of the Transcendental Meditation technique were involved in instructing the Lynch Weekend attendees, with each instructor teaching about five persons. These instructors will then maintain contact with the new meditators over the coming months until school begins to answer questions about the practice.
The Lynch Weekend drew over 300 participants and featured presentations by Dr. Lynch, Dr. John Hagelin, and Dr. Fred Travis, and live music from Donovan, Moby, Laura Dawn, Chrysta Bell, and Oceana Gayden and her band Zenphonic, which included the well-known guitarist Mac Gayden.
The theme of the Weekend was 'Exploring the Frontiers of Creativity, Sustainability, and Peace.'
The event also included sessions with students and faculty in Sustainable Living and a tour of campus and points of interest such as the organic greenhouses and Abundance Ecovillage.
