Speaking on a videotape played recently on Maharishi's Global Family Chat, teachers from a school in Monterrey, Mexico, who have recently begun Transcendental Meditation, described their experiences with the practice (many children at the school have also learned Transcendental Meditation).
The Director of the school
'Today, I didn't meditate. There was a lot of work and I feel more tired and more nervous.'
Q: And when you meditate how do you feel?
'Oh, very peaceful. I do my day of work very well, and when I come home they tell me that ''Oh, you are in a good mood!'' My daughter who was living with us asked me to teach her. So I told her ''I can explain to you, but to learn you need to go through a qualified teacher.'' '
The school Coordinator
Q: What are the benefits for yourself?
'I feel more rested. I have high blood pressure, it is quite recent, and if it [concerns] me sometimes then it dissolves very quickly. I feel very relaxed; very relaxed with family, with people, with the children.
'How long I have been meditating? About three months. . . . [The school children] are better, they are more peaceful.
'Even [visitors] from the government came, and they have noticed that the children are more relaxed, more peaceful, and they reported to me. In spite of the examination period the children are more peaceful . . .'
Q: Can you tell me what you think about the Transcendental Meditation Programme?
'The mothers and the children are very enthusiastic about it. It is new to us.'
Q: And they received it well?
Q: And do you notice any change in your personality as meditator?
'Oh yes, definitely. I have been meditating for two to three months and the changes are obvious.'
Q: You think it is something good for the children?
'Of course. It is a technique good for all ages.'
Q: Have you seen some changes in the children practising meditation?
'Those who come out of meditation are more peaceful.'
Q: More peaceful after meditation?
'Yes, after meditation. And they have more energy, more energy. It is going to happen, and I don't want to miss it. So I want to stay and be a part, and witness all this transformation. It is a very traditional school, but nevertheless it's giving meditation a chance.'
Q: Why do you think they are doing it?
'Because there is a sense of receptivity in spite of having a very traditional system of education in academic disciplines like mathematics and Spanish. And there was no technique for integral development.'
Q: What are you teaching?
'I am a classic art teacher and I think these courses of meditation will allow something really good to happen.'
Following the video shown on Maharishi Global Family Chat, Raja Jose Luis Alvarez, Raja of Latin America for the Global Country of World Peace, commented that this was just a few months of experience of Transcendental Meditation after the programme was implemented in the school, and the experience has been very successful.
'That school has recommended it to a few other schools in Monterrey,' he said, so now they look forward to much more activity introducing Transcendental Meditation in that area.
