Colombian priest supports Consciousness-Based Education; two more Venezuelan universities to implement programmes

Dr Jose Luis Alvarez Roset, Raja of Latin America for the Global Country of World Peace, reported inspiring progress in implementing Consciousness-Based Education in Peru and Colombia, along with news of two more universities implementing Maharishi's educational programmes in Venezuela.
In Peru, the principal of a school began Consciousness-Based Education for his 700 students several months ago. Dr Roset explained that, after the students had been practising the Transcendental Meditation Technique during these months, the opportunity then arose for them to learn the advanced TM-Sidhi Programme; and the principal, a Catholic priest, wanted to learn more about it. So Father Gabriel Mejia, 'his brother priest in Colombia, wrote a letter for him that may also be helpful in other schools,' Dr Roset said.
The letter explained that Fr Mejia was a religious priest who had been practising Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation Programme for twenty years; and that it was the greatest inspiration in his life. He explained that he had begun schools for street children who were on the streets because of problems in school. He had looked very deeply into the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programmes, and the extensive scientific research about them.
Learning that these programmes 'have an impact on the consciousness of the people', Fr Mejia made them the main part of the children's education. He found that as a result, there was less violence and 'a very easy end to addiction, and . . . it brought more harmony.' In the warmest terms, he spoke of how these programmes had accomplished the rehabilitation and re-education for 3,000 street children, now in several different schools. He commented that it 'makes us much nearer to God, which is our goal!'
The letter found a very tender, warm, and appreciative reception, and now the principal in Peru feels inspired to continue the entire programme in all of his five schools.
Dr Roset also reported heartening news from Venezuela. As reported recently in Global Good News (visit 'Venezuela's hero of private education ...'), the work of Dr Richard Tucker, a university Vice-Chancellor who is establishing Consciousness-Based Education for his 24 campuses in 13 different cities, is bearing even more fruit—his large university system is now being joined by two other universities who are also implementing Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programmes into their curricula. 'This is being done,' Dr Roset explains, 'with all the top university leaders, and as a most important top priority for the government' in the National Forces University of Venezuela.
