Educators in Switzerland, Austria and Germany respond with enthusiasm to Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Approach to Education

Part 3: Germany

The German Tour entitled 'School without Stress for successful Learning', was led by Dr Ashley Deans, director of the multiple award-winning Maharishi School, Fairfield, Iowa, USA, and Professor Dr Eckart Stein, Educator and Physicist, and Director of the new Invincibility School in Hannover.

Hartmut Knoblauch of Uedem provided simultaneous translation. Ram Raj Radio, the voice of Invincible Germany, helped spread the word of the education tour.

In his press release, Dr Eckart Stein spoke of the reasons behind his initiative 'School without Stress':

'In view of the ongoing lowering of standards of our German education system, I consider it a matter of urgency that Consciousness-Based Education be adopted for our country. With my initiative, Schools without Stress, I would like to introduce this system in Germany in both state and private schools, so that the greatest benefits in the whole spectrum of the school curriculum can be experienced daily... and to see the tour of Dr Deans as prelude to the foundation of private schools based on this forward-looking educational approach.'

12 Press Conferences were planned for München,Tübingen, Stuttgart, Saarbrücken, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Erfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Berlin,Düsseldorf and Bonn, running from December 3 to December 13.

For his first appearance in Germany, Dr Deans put himself at the disposal of the Press at the Hotel Königshof am Stachus in München, where there is already considerable interest and support in opening an Invincibility School. This was followed by very successful conferences in Tübingen and Stuttgart.

Wiesbaden was a particular success in that it attracted a local TV station who recorded the proceedings.

The meeting in Hannover created much interest, as the Hannover Peace Palace is in the process of establishing its first Maharishi School to begin at the fifth grade next year—they have buildings and teachers, and have handed in applications for permits.

In Berlin the Tour secured the Government Press Conference venue. They spoke there with many school directors, many of whom are committed to establishing schools in the area. One observer commented on the students of Maharishi Schools: 'You always lift them up, never put them down. How easy it is to teach them!'

Dr Dean's tour created a wave of inspiration wherever it travelled.
