A recent lecture tour by Dr Ashley Dearns in New Zealand, on the benefits of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique for students, inspired an interview on national television and radio, and reports in national publications.

The news reported that Ashley Deans, an educator from the United States, recommends that New Zealand's school offer Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique as part of the curriculum. The article reported that advocates of the TM Programme say, 'Two 10 minute sessions of meditation will help rid schools of violence and drugs and improve students grades.'
Dr Deans sited the improved academic outcomes in Iowa. 'They're alert, they're bright, they're reading to learn and it's quite unnerving for the teachers really,' Mr Deans said in the interview.
The report stated that the Southern Regional Health School, a school for students who are physically or mentally challenged, 'believes its students could benefit' from the TM Technique.
