Ken Daley to head State Association of Physical Educators
The M.U.M. Review Translate This Article
23 November 2005
Ken Daley, chair of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science, was installed as president of the state association of physical educators at the association's annual meeting earlier this month.
Mr. Daley feels a strong sense of mission to improve the health of Iowa students. 'Iowa students are failing physical education,' he says. 'They're less fit and more sedentary. Obesity is increasing at an epidemic speed. Immediate and decisive action must take place.'
As president of the Iowa Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD), Mr. Daley hopes to do more to bring these issues to light and to work with the state's physical educators to establish programs that help children develop healthy bodies and a healthy lifestyle—and to make it fun.
The association is also encouraging Iowa legislators to review current legislation and public policy with regards to health and physical education in the State of Iowa.
Mr. Daley said the mission of the association is to provide leadership and support for the enhancement of movement, leisure, and health-related programs central to healthy, active lifestyles and lifelong learning. They assemble the best ideas in physical education programs and provide a place for them to be shared with other members of the physical education community in order to provide a well-rounded approach.
