The David Lynch Foundation (DLF) and filmmaker David Lynch were honored by the TriBeCa Disruptive Innovation Awards (TDIA) during their sixth annual award ceremony which was held in New York City on April 24. The award recognized ''those whose ideas have broken the mold to create significant impact.''
The DLF was recognized for its innovative approach to disrupting the dangerous cycle of toxic stress, sickness, substance abuse, and violent behavior among at-risk populations through widespread introduction of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique. The DLF's five-year goal is to teach TM to three million adults and youth worldwide, including inner-city youth, veterans, and women survivors of domestic abuse.
Established by Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Craig Hatkoff and Harvard Business School Professor Clayton M. Christensen, TDIA celebrates impactful innovation across all domains ranging in technology, politics, medicine, healthcare, education, spirituality, economics, fashion, philanthropy, and more.
''TDIA serves as a living laboratory for advances in disruptive innovation theory and brings together the world's most fascinating disruptors whose stories will inspire anyone with an interest in the process of innovation,'' Mr. Hatkoff said.
The award was accepted by DLF executive director Bob Roth, who has taught Transcendental Meditation for over 40 years to thousands of people.
Other individuals and organizations honored during the celebration included AirBnB, Girls Who Code, Operation Smile, VICE, and the Emmy-nominated host of National Geographic's ''Brain Games,'' Jason Silva.
''We are very grateful to TriBeCa for recognizing the hard work and innovative thinking of those in the world who are disrupting failed and destructive institutions of health care, technology, politics, education, and commerce. We are honored by the recognition and we pledge to intensify our efforts to bring this Transcendental Meditation-based antidote to trauma and toxic stress to all those who need it the most,'' Roth said.
