Tonight in Los Angeles, the David Lynch Foundation is honouring legendary music producer Rick Rubin with the 'Lifetime of Harmony' Award.
The event, titled 'A Night of Harmony', at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, is a benefit to support the Foundation's initiatives to make the stress-reducing Transcendental Meditation technique widely available to at-risk youth, veterans, and others suffering from the devastating effects of post-traumatic stress. Scientific research has shown that TM dramatically reduces PTSD symptoms—with the most recent study finding this effect in African war refugees after only 10 days of meditation practice.
The celebration is featuring musical performances by the Dixie Chicks, Damien Rice, and Jake Bugg.
'Rick Rubin is the hottest music producer around,' commented acclaimed film director Lynch. 'He has the ears to hear. He has the genius to tune into each artist he works with to bring out their true self—their dreams—their wishes—and the genius to make their music sound better than they could imagine. '
'On top of this, Rick is a long time Transcendental Meditation meditator and has brought Transcendental Meditation and its benefits to many others traveling along his road. Rick is living and enjoying the good life which comes from diving within each day.
'We at the David Lynch Foundation are so happy to be honoring the great Rick Rubin with the Lifetime of Harmony Award.'
The event has been announced widely in the news media—including USA Today and Billboard.
Tonight's award celebration is the second presented by the David Lynch Foundation in the past month in Los Angeles. The first, on 20 January, honoured Ringo Starr with the 'Lifetime of Peace and Love Award' at the El Rey Theatre.
