by Stefanie Cohen

6 December 2013
On 6 December 2013 The Wall Street Journal reported: On Tuesday, 3 December in New York City, film star Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, were honoured with the ''Lifetime of Giving'' Award by the David Lynch Foundation. Mr Jackman practises Transcendental Meditation, and writer Stefanie Cohen explained that 'the gala, called Change Begins Within, is the fifth annual benefit celebration for the David Lynch Foundation, which raises money to teach Transcendental Meditation to school children in need, veterans and first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, and women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.' It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of culture.
'Guests were surprised when another lifelong meditator took the stage—a comic some of you may have heard of named Jerry Seinfeld—who apparently maintained his sanity during his hit show ''Seinfeld'' by meditating during his lunch hour,' Ms Cohen wrote.
The Foundation aims to teach the scientifically validated, stress-reducing Transcendental Meditation technique to 'at least 1,000 veterans and first responders in New York City and to 10,000 nationwide' this year, the Wall Street Journal article stated.
Also honoured at the gala with a ''Lifetime of Service Award'' was Salvatore Cassano, Commissioner of the legendary New York City Fire Department (FDNY). ' ''It's a stressful job with little sleep. And I noticed a big difference right away. It's another tool in the toolbox,'' ' the article quoted Commissioner Cassano as saying about the results of his Transcendental Meditation practice.
