At the recent Ecobuild Exhibition in London, proponents of Maharishi Vastu architecture presented the tenets of Vastu design to the public.

One of the expert presenters, Henry Brighouse, commented on the experience, highlighting the aspects of Maharishi Vastu architecture which are aligned with the philosophy behind the Ecobuild Exhibition.

'This [was a] huge, huge exhibition where there were many technological devices for tackling climate change, for saving energy, for doing things more efficiently, for preserving the limited resources of the planet in very creative ways,' Mr Brighouse said.

He added that Maharishi Vastu design looks at the big picture, often far beyond the structure itself, taking into account the influences of the environment, not just the influence on the environment.

'These two things combined made a very satisfactory relationship and we felt very comfortable that we had set up our stand to promote Maharishi Vastu, building in accord with Natural Law, in this environment where people really had come to hear all about Natural Law and building in harmony with Natural Law.'

In addition to providing information about Maharishi Vastu, presenters at the booth were also able to show visitors pictures and video from Maharishi Garden Village, an entire community in Rendlesham, Suffolk, England designed according to Vastu principles.

The community is made up of 57 houses and apartment buildings, all centred around a silent space known as the Brahmasthan. UK Vastu consultant John Renwick described the village layout as having an 'orderly settled feeling, which is a major attribute of Vastu and one of the main experiences people have here'.

The houses are designed in a traditional Georgian and Suffolk style of architecture. They use natural building materials.

Mr Renwick added that the community started about nine years ago and many people moved there knowing the unique advantages of Maharishi Vastu design and are now experiencing the benefits.
