25 April 2011
A brilliant concert by legendary musicians of the Indian classical tradition, performed in Holland and webcast live last Monday 25 April, is now archived and available for online replay.
The concert, the highlight of the Spring Maharishi Gandharva Veda Festival, delighted a rapt audience at the TheaterHotel de Oranjerie in Roermond.
Featured in the concert:
∙ The legendary Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia has delighted and enthralled audiences around the world. His unparalleled mastery of the bansuri—the Indian bamboo flute—has won him the highest acclaim across the globe, including Padma Vibhushan by the government of India—the second-highest civilian honour in the nation. He has also been honoured with the title 'Officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau' by the Dutch royal family; as well as with the highest civilian award in France, 'Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters'.
∙ Also thrilling the audience was the Raga-Pianist Utsav Lal, who has performed over 100 solo concerts at worldwide venues and festivals. He is the youngest winner of Ireland's individual MAMA (Metro Eireann Media and Multicultural Awards), for championing multiculturalism in music.
∙ Accompanying Pandit Chaurasia was the virtuoso Pandit Vijay Ghate, recognized as one of today's most brilliant and exciting tabla players. Known for clarity and purity of various complicated tabla compositions, Pandit Vijay Ghate has accompanied many well-known artists, and has been recognized for his forays into fusion in the world of music with well-known artists from the west.
The entire programme of the 25 April concert has been archived online and is available for viewing at one's convenience. Click here to register to view the concert online.
