In the UK, accomplished people from many different professions notice that practising the Transcendental Meditation (TM) Technique improves their work lives.
Many feel that the meditation provides deep rest and an additional boost of energy.
'My experience is that TM actually gives you that inner reservoir of energy where you have challenge and you have pressure, but somehow you're just not fazed by it,' says Nigel Barlow, a leading authority on innovation, creativity, and leadership.
Gerard Valente, a school teacher, adds that even though he works with kids, he now has the energy to keep up with them.
'I genuinely feel that, with TM, I'm able to give a lot of myself without ever feeling depleted,' Mr Valente remarks.
'I can give a lot, yet at the end of the day I don't feel diminished, I don't feel depleted. I feel fresh and I'm able to go in the next day and give again. The kids can relate a lot better to me in the classroom. I think they find me a lot more personable. I'm able to have a joke with them, I'm able to relate to them in a way they find easy and relaxing. I think that's a testament to how I feel within myself. I'm calm, I'm relaxed and I think they pick up on that.'
'Doing Transcendental Meditation is probably the most value additive in terms of the work that I do,' says James Scott, a professional in corporate finance.
He adds that the reason Transcendental Meditation is so helpful is because it gives 'clarity of mind, the ability to work under pressure—also if there are conflicts within a team, which often arise in the kind of work that we do, being able to resolve those is extremely important. I think [with] Transcendental Meditation, I've found an extraordinarily important tool for doing that.'
Michael Andrew, a financial adviser, notices that Transcendental Meditation gives 'a belief that you can actually get anywhere and do anything in your life, and a clarity and a vision that was not there previously.'
