Recently Jeffrey Abramson, partner in The Tower Companies, the largest green real estate developer* in the Washington, DC area, spoke at the Garrison Institute's 2011 Symposium on Climate, Buildings, and Behavior. As described on the Garrison Institute website, this symposium explored how building managers and building occupants can develop more pro-social and pro-environmental behaviors in their buildings.
The Garrison Institute, based in Garrison, New York, USA, was founded by Jonathan Rose, a national developer and pioneer of green technologies. Mr Rose believes that buildings can influence their occupants, and he is therefore interested in exploring ways to create only positive influences.
Mr Abramson, a successful businessman whose company developed the largest Maharishi Vastu office tower in the world—2000 Tower Oaks Boulevard, which has also won numerous green building awards—has seen firsthand the positive effects that come with applying the principles of Maharishi Vastu architecture. This was the main subject of his talk at the Climate, Buildings, and Behavior symposium.
His talk, entitled 'Transcending Green', focused on a few main ideas.
Mr Abramson spoke about the positive impact of environmentally friendly green buildings, but told the audience that though this has long been a part of his buildings, 'I quickly came to realize that green buildings alone, saving the environment, was not necessarily all that was necessary.'
This is because green buildings focus on the outside environment without always factoring in their impact on the most expensive factor in every business: human capital.
Mr Abramson went on to share a few ideas on how to maximize human capital using architecture. He explained how his company is using Maharishi Vastu architecture as a means of prevention, thereby reducing the high cost of health care.
Lastly, he explained other benefits of using Maharishi Vastu designs, illustrating his point with several testimonials from professionals who work in Vastu office buildings. Due to intelligent and life-supporting architecture, these professionals experience a myriad of benefits which go beyond green.
Global Good News will continue to feature Jeffrey Abramson's presentation at the Garrison Institute symposium.

* Among many other distinctions and awards, The Tower Companies is the only real estate developer on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 100 percent US Green Power Purchasers' List, ranking #16 in the country.
