In an interview, Bob Jones, a chief investment officer in New York City, described his experience with Transcendental Meditation, to which he attributes much of his success in life and the ability to think clearly under pressure.

A video of the interview with Mr Jones is posted on TM.org, the website for the Transcendental Meditation Programme in the US.

Other pages on TM.org explain that the benefits of Transcendental Meditation are immediate and also increase over time. The technique's positive effects—for mind, body, and relationships—have been verified by hundreds of scientific research studies conducted at 250 independent universities and medical schools in 33 countries during the past 40 years. Studies have been published in over 350 peer-reviewed scientific journals.

In the interview Mr Jones says that Transcendental Meditation helps him to focus. He attributes a great deal of his success in life to Transcendental Meditation 'and the ability to help find my centre, who I am, and who I want to be—being on that centre and achieving better focus in life.

'It's very important to have a clear mind, to think clearly, especially under pressure, under stress,' he said. 'We live in a very stressful world, and you can see around you people who get all upset, and flustered and anxious when times are tough—and they make bad decisions when they get like that.

'Having a calm demeanour, being able to take things as they come, and be able to address them in a calm and thoughtful way is very important to success in any industry, but particularly in asset management.'

He explained that when one is feeling under pressure, or has too many things going on, Transcendental Meditation helps one realize what is important. 'I think meditation helps you realize, ''These are the things I need to do; these are the things that are less important and I can get to if I get time.''

'By being more thoughtful and focussed you find time, you find a lot of time. You actually end up with more time than you would without meditation.'

Mr Jones commented that the research results on Transcendental Meditation 'are very compelling. People who meditate live longer, have better health, are more in control of their lives. And frankly, I think the testimony of people that do it is another good example.'

People who have practised Transcendental Meditation keep meditating, he added. 'There are very few people who give it up because it was boring, or they didn't like it, or whatever. Everybody I know who has started when I started at 15 is still doing it, from my high school class.'

His wife, children, and mother-in-law are also practising the technique 'and they're all still doing it,' he said. 'So it's good testimony that they find value in the technique.'
