Two international conferences of great significance for Nepal were held recently in the capital city of that country, Kathmandu—one on national security and world peace, the other on fulfilling the goals of religion and culture.

The conferences presented scientifically validated Vedic technologies of consciousness developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to promote integrated national consciousness, strengthen cultural integrity, and create an ideal society living in peace, harmony, and prosperity.

The conferences were held in December under the auspices of Nepal Maharishi Vedic Foundation. Featured speakers included members of an international delegation of the Global Country of World Peace which came to Nepal to participate.

Central to the organization and success of these conferences was Deepak Baskota, Chairman of Nepal Maharishi Vedic Foundation. Dr Baskota is former Home Minister of Nepal and the founder of the first certified organic tea gardens in Nepal.

The first conference was titled: Fulfilling the goals of religion and culture: The development of consciousness for an ideal society. The conference was honoured by the participation of its chief guest, the Honourable Lokendra Bahadur Chand, former Prime Minister and member of the Constituent Assembly. Many religious leaders and other dignitaries attended.

Featured international speakers were Dr Chris Crowell and Dr Ann Crowell, Directors for Religion and Culture of the Global Country of World Peace, Netherlands, who spoke on 'Achieving the goals of religion and culture through developing individual and collective consciousness', and 'The role of mothers in upholding cultural integrity'.

The conference 'attracted a great deal of attention and serious thought', Dr Chris Crowell commented recently. Attendees raised many good questions; they were inspired by and gave careful consideration to Maharishi's programmes and technologies, he said.

The following day, Gunter Chassé, Lt. Col. (Retd.), German Air Force, addressed the second conference on 'Achieving national security and peace: A consciousness-based approach to defence'. Lt. Col. Chassé, who is also Director for Defence of the Global Country of World Peace, described the value of establishing coherence-creating groups practising the consciousness-based Invincible Defence Technology.

Dr Chris Crowell and Dr Ann Crowell also spoke at this conference, on 'Preventing social and ethnic conflict through the development of individual and collective consciousness'. The presentation focused on 'the critical need to establish coherence in world consciousness, to eliminate ongoing cultural and religious conflict in countries around the world.'

Members of the delegation also participated in another important conference—the harvest festival of the Kirat people in a mountainous area of southeastern Nepal, to which more than 40,000 people came over the course of a week.

Dr Chris Crowell was invited to address an assembly of 8,000 people, honouring their ancient cultural heritage and presenting Maharishi's initiatives through which 'culture can be revitalized and cultural integrity can be established'. He described the benefits of practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme to develop consciousness and promote life in accord with natural law, and was given an award from the Kirati culture—an expression of their appreciation for Maharishi's knowledge, he said.

At the end of their visit to Nepal, the delegation spoke at a press conference in Kathmandu, presenting all the knowledge that had been brought out in the previous conferences, showing that 'Nepal can lead the world in creating an ideal society, simply through the introduction of Maharishi's programmes to develop consciousness,' Dr Crowell said.

Global Good News will continue to feature more about each of these special conferences in Nepal.
