President says Gambia to shift from English
9 March 2014 - Gambia's President said that he wants to implement a policy change that would shift the country's language from English to a local language. 'We no longer subscribe to the belief that for you to be a government you should speak English language. We should speak our language,' President Yahya Jammeh said during the swearing-in ceremony of Gambia's new Chief Justice that aired on state-run Gambia Television Services on Friday. (more)

Gambia among 20 countries on track for MDGs attainment - Finance DPS
29 November 2013 - The deputy permanent secretary for Programmes and Projects at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs has disclosed that The Gambia is among 20 countries worldwide that are gaining momentum in the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), whose deadline is 2015. The eight smart, measurable, achievable. and realistic goals and targets of the MDGs range from halving extreme poverty rates to providing universal primary education. (more)

Some of the key objectives of Taiwan Youth Ambassador (TYA) programme are to initiate a series of goodwill missions around the world, exchange goodwill visits to sister cities, advocate Green Tech Solutions through field trips as well as establish new sister-cityhood during visits. Gambia has 'double-zero' tolerance for drugs - President
9 March 2010 - Gambia's President said on 9 March he would not let his country become a haven for drug traffickers, many of whom have infiltrated other parts of coastal West Africa. 'I have zero tolerance for criminals. I have double-zero tolerance for drugs,' President Yahya Jammeh said on state television. Gambia, which is sandwiched between northern and southern Senegal, has been a rare example of stability in West Africa. (more)
